Subduing The Earth-Let’s Get It Done

Don’t tell me how hard you work; tell me how much you get done.” — Attributed to James Ling
The power of being human…
That is, the power of being an image bearer of God…
is that we can create.
When we create something, it has an impact. It causes things to happen.
When I created a profile on Fiverr in 2019, it changed my life, but also impacted the lives of others.
When I started churches, it moved things around in God’s universe.
When I preached sermons…
When I wrote books…
When I raised children…
When I built websites…
Wait..let’s talk about that last one. I never built a website, or did I?
I thought of it.
I bought the domain.
I hired Jaybor, then Tina, now Andre to build them. They created it. We created it.
When I put these things in existence with a decision, by myself, and with others, it changed the world in a small way.
And I didn’t raise my children alone. Also my wife raised my children.
God created me (and Jaybor, and Tina, and Andre, and my wife, and all those who helped me create stuff)…
to continue His creation. He created you to continue His creation. He created you and me and said, “Be fruitful, multiply, subdue the earth.”
SUBDUE THE EARTH!
The earth, and all its materials, and all its physics and biology, and the math that is associated with it…it’s unruly…
It’s ”very good,” but it needs to be subdued.
Men and women are the difference between wild death-and-creative, life-giving, onward movement toward something abundant. That’s God’s design.
I would ask you to take yourself seriously. You can still be humble by realizing that not only are you supposed to unleash your creative genius on the world…
so is everyone else.
What will you create today?
You can’t say “nothing,” because there is no option not to create. If you’re doing, you’re creating. But do you know how far you can go if you do it on purpose?
“Don’t tell me how hard you work; tell me how much you get done.” Hard work is spinning wheels if we’re not purposely creating. How much have you gotten done?
The beautiful thing about creating is that it doesn’t (necessarily) require hard work.
It’s not hard for me to create a website, because my work is having the idea in the shower; someone else takes my money and does the hard work. Then the website creates business for me.
Business for me means books to create in one way or another.
Think of things you can do that could make the world better, but don’t be fooled into thinking that hard work is a substitute for getting it done.
Getting to say you work hard is a consolation prize for not creating.
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
27 So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.
28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Genesis 1:26-28 ESV)
