What A Kind Father With His Rules

“Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed.“ 
 
Francis Bacon said it first and I can’t stop thinking about it. 
 
Nature has rules. 
 
Follow them, and you can manipulate it. The Wright brothers commanded nature when they followed the rules better than DaVinci—the rules of lift and propulsion, and not to mention gravity. 
 
This is so cool, because people usually associate rules with restrictions. 
 
But Bacon thought of them as what you need to know to make amazing things happen. 
 
 
God’s Causal Rules
 
I think the same way about God’s amazing causal rule of law. 
 
This includes the Bible, physics, and all Bacon’s laws of nature. 
 
Your Father in heaven loves you and has told you how to live in the world now and for eternity. 
 
Could you be successful in soccer or baseball or football without knowing and following the rules? 
 
In some ways, the rules make it fun. 
 
Try playing a game where everyone can just do what they want. That’s not fun. It’s only fun because there are rules. 
 
God has made it so that life is the same way. 
 
Marriage without rules would actually be boring. 
 
Productivity and trade without rules would be terrifying. 
 
Life on earth with no boundaries or limitations would be senseless. 
 
Just something to ponder today. My take is that God knows what He is doing and is a trustworthy Father. 
 
My take is that if you feel you want to rebel against Him, why don’t you try to discern whether you think His rules are an arbitrary duty. I’d want to rebel against that too. 
 
Is gravity an arbitrary rule? There is only one way to find out, but there is quite a cost. 
 
Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed. 
 
God’s causal ways, when obeyed, allow us to command the lives we steward with great effectiveness. 
 
God’s greatest law besides loving Him with all our heart is that Life is precious (do not murder). 
 
Obeying that law alone will lead to more and more abundant life. It goes way beyond just not killing. It goes toward seeking life in Christ and then stewarding a life toward the greatest reward possible and a hardy “Well done good and faithful servant!”
