We Can’t Do Anything Without This
The Holy Spirit’s Role in Our Lives
In the course of a day, the topic of the Holy Spirit came up in my life three times and it started to feel like God was talking to me.
First, my dear friend, Roxanne, who writes a great Substack wrote a powerful story on her life with the Holy Spirit.
Second, a missionary friend and I were talking about his effort to reach a difficult people group in a highly anti-Christian part of the world. We were talking about the fact that only miracles of the Holy Spirit would likely work to break through there.
Third, I was writing part of a book for a client on the work of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament, and I was moved and convicted over how prevalent His role is in the creative and redemptive history of humanity, beginning with the first chapter of Genesis.
What do I think God is saying? Rely on the Holy Spirit. He’s everything.
Do ministry, marriage, parenting, life by the power of the Holy Spirit as I abide in Christ, focus my mind on what is good, true, lovely, and worthy.
Make my perceptions with the Holy Spirit’s leading.
Make my judgments by the Holy Spirit.
Make my choices by the Holy Spirit.
Take action by the Holy Spirit.
But wait…there’s more!
Write and publish books by the Holy Spirit.
Plant a church by the Holy Spirit.
Heal the sick by the Holy Spirit.
Preach the gospel by the Holy Spirit.
Prophesy by the Holy Spirit.
Raise the dead by the Holy Spirit.
Praise, pray, and all the rest by the power of the Holy Spirit!
But I’ve been tricked before by people who said they were ministering in the Holy Spirit’s power, but they were lying, or at least, mistaken.
If I’m honest, I’m afraid. I’m not afraid of the Holy Spirit. I’m afraid of thinking something is the Holy Spirit that is not the Holy Spirit.
If you are a Christian, how do you deal with this problem?
I hate to leave you without application, so here it is: It’s not okay to live a Christian life apart from the Holy Spirit’s power and leading.
So I pray that everyone who reads this knows His great power and learns to partner with Him in your life, and I would ask you to pray for me and all the readers too.
Let’s use the comments today to sound off. If you comment, “Pray for me,” then we will. I would humbly ask you to look through the comments and pray for those who commented.
I’m praying for everyone who reads this, but I will specifically pray for you if you comment and ask me to.
Have a great, Spirit-filled day, and may God give us the discernment to know when it’s Him.
