To Be a World Champion Tennis Player, Let Your Poopy Earbud Go

The Secret to Having Mostly Good Days…

At the risk of looking gross and stupid, let me tell you what happened on Monday morning.

What is worse than dropping your iPod Pro earbuds in the toilet?

Dropping them in after you fill it with the morning deposit. Yep.

But what’s worse than dropping your iPod Pro earbuds in a poopy toilet?

Dropping them in a poopy toilet that is mid-flush. Uh-huh.

What’s worse than that?

Instinctively diving in hand-first to try to rescue the poopy IPod Pro right earbud (thankfully, the left one fell on the floor).

And what’s worse than that? Missing it–losing it down the drain where it is now on its way to wherever sewage goes in Normal, IL, to be part of the “normal” sewage.

What’s this about? It’s about having a good day when it starts off terrible. It’s about moving on quickly when bad stuff happens, about deciding to have a good day.

Many people simply can’t move on from something like that happening first thing in the morning. Other people immediately start planning a blog post about it and put it behind them!

What else is hard to recover from? A fight, a lapse in judgment, a sin, or a failure?

I saw a famous tennis player, Roger Federer, giving a speech somewhere. He said that though he won about 80% of his matches, he only won 56% of the points. You could win 51% of the points and still be a world champion. That means losing 49% of the points!

How encouraging. Federer’s point is the same as mine: if you cannot come back from a lost point, a setback, or a flushed earbud, then you won’t make it in life. Everyone has bad moments, but whoever can put them behind them will do all right.

“But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead….” (Phil 3:13).

I pray you can move on quickly when life happens and win the day, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
